POETRY COMPETITION
2010
As part of the Festival we will be holding a Poetry Competition with three
different age categories:

7
- 11 years |

CATEGORY B: |
12 - 17 years |
| |
CATEGORY C: |
18 and above |
There will be three prizes in each
category, the prizes in the form of Book Tokens to the values of:

The winners will receive their prizes
at a Special Event on the afternoon of Saturday 10th July which will close
that day's proceedings. This event will be hosted by BBC Radio Cumbria's
Gordon Swindlehurst. The winning poems will be recorded and broadcast on
BBC Radio Cumbria.
The three judges for the competition
will be acclaimed poets Mary Robinson and Andrew Forster (from the
Wordsworth Trust), and Jim Eldridge, now an award winning author and
scriptwriter, and formerly a performance poet.
Rules

Entrants must be resident in Cumbria

All entries must have been previously
unpublished

Maximum length of any poem: one page
(or 40 lines)

Each poem must state which Age
Category it is entered for

For bulk entries there will be a
limit of 10 poems per school or organisation
(Schools are requested to pre-judge and send their own selections)

Individual entries are welcomed,
limited to one poem per individual

In order to ensure fairness, the
judges will not be told the names of entrants. To ensure this:
a) We would request that all schools and organisations submitting bulk
entries remove the name of the writer and replace it with a code of
their choice (eg number)
b) Entries submitted by individuals will have the name of the writer
removed (or blacked out) by the Submissions Committee and given a code
number before being passed to the judges
