KEATS WALKS CUMBRIA

John Keats walked through Cumbria with friend Charles Brown in summer 1818, over 100 miles in six days. First reading of his ghoulish poem Isabella, rage at Wordsworth, fleas in Wythburn, euphoric dancing at Ireby, deepest gloom in Carlisle - these all feature in a tour that had a huge impact on this most attractive of poets. The talk will enlarge, with some novel interpretations; and you will have a summary pamphlet with route and key quotes to take away.

Robin Acland, now retired, is Cumbrian through and through. He spent his working life entirely in education as teacher, adviser and inspector. His obsessions are: wondering at the astronomer Kepler, making sculptures from rubbish objects and reading about the Arctic. He will keep on trying to write too.
